Invisible Children news.

Here (ABC News) and here (Pasadena Star News) are two articles about the recent "Displace Me" human PR campaign (I don't know what else to call it) for Invisible Children. Good stuff, and I'm glad they're getting some public, even national (if somewhat hidden) attention.

Originally, this blog was a place to document my intellectual, emotional and spiritual journey into the world of social-justice, particularly as it relates to biblical Christianity and the gospel of Jesus Christ. I had barely heard the term "social justice" until I began attending a Christian university, where I began to observe people who wanted to care for not only the spiritually sick, but the heartsick and physically sick as well.

I soon found that justice for the oppressed was near to the very heart of God, yet I saw that the Church's history was riddled with mistakes, as people often forgot the eternal salve of the gospel for earthly, temporary fixes. These errors seemed to have resulted in the false dichotomy we see in contemporary Christianity: either you care about holiness and doctrine, or you care about society. Could there ever be a biblical reconciliation between the two?

Besides all that, the issue of racial and cultural diversity in the American church had long haunted me and seemed somehow relevant to the discussion. Was American Christianity segregated by accident or by design? Should we be happy with this segregation, or was there something wrong with this picture?

In Spring 2008 I took a capstone seminar called "Money, Sex, and Power," and chose to do my semester-long portfolio project on race, power, and reconciliation in the church. It was not the most focused project, and it asked a lot more than it answered; but it was one of the most important things I did in college, and I posted much of it (in parts) here.
